Good split-seconds pocket chronograph by Agassiz in golden case.
Swiss, made for American market, circa 1900.
Diameter is 46 mm, weight is 78 grams.

As most of Agassiz chronograph watches it's equipped with LeCoultre movement, finished to high grade.
Joel Pynson "La montre chronographe de Suisse" shows Agassiz watch with very similar calibre by LeCoultre (p.51).
The dial and movement are signed by Agassiz, the case bears AW stamp for Albert Wittnauer as well as 14k hallmark.

Agassiz Watch Co was a Swiss watch brand, closely linked with Longines. Agassiz company was founded by Georges Agassiz in 1876 by the son of Aguste Agassiz, the founder of what would become the Longines watch factory.

In 1867 Georges Agassiz went to the USA to market Longines models. Nine years later he set up as an independent under his own name. The business model was the finish and assemble movements of high value pocket watches. Georges created his own logo with a signature and a fish. Starting 1900, Agassiz produced jewellry wrist watches and complicated timepieces. Longines connection continued with models being branded Agassiz-Longines. There are also numerous examples bring co-branded with Tiffany and Co.
In 1946 Agassiz Watch Co was merged into Wittnauer et Cie, which was closely related to Agassiz' Longines, and Longines took over the Agassiz trademarks in 1984.





Condition
Watch is running as it should, time keeping is not tested.
Split-seconds chronograph is functions properly.
The dial is flawless.
Case have common period wear, fine condition.
Overall good condition - nice split-seconds chronograph by Agassiz, don't miss it.
