Unusual inking chronograph for bicycle races in original box.
Diameter of the watch is 58mm.
France, late of XIX c.

Watch is working as chronograph with an inking pointing function - when the button on the top is pressed - watch makes mark with inks on the dial.

Inking chronographs was invented by Nicolas Rieussec in 1821 for horse races.
It was the first development of real chronograph with start / stop, so currently Rieussec considered as pioneer of chronograph development.
About 1835-1836 Rieussec took Chaudé & Bruneau as partners, and probably they retailed several chronographs made by Rieussec in mid-XIX before starting production by they own.

This chronograph is fine example of chronograph development, it comes with original box and set of inking bottle.
As you see from the box, chronograph was purposed for bicycle racings, the car racing wasn't probably invented yet.

The set is very rare, in 1998 Antiquorum offered similar nickel cased model for sale, estimated at 2000-2400 CHF.
