Very nice single handed Louis XIV oignon watch. France, circa 1700s.
Beautiful gilt dial with porcelain cartouches.
Big silver balance bridge is very nice, it's beautifully decorated with floral ornament.
Gilt case is decorated with arabesques.
Watch is signed by Rabby in Paris.
is mentioned by Tardy, installed on rue de Harlay since 1689. He was married in 1686, received Master in 1717.
Tardy mentions, that he was imprisoned in 1718 for marrying his daughter for protestant from Geneve in English embassy.
Interesting story, showing the sympathies of French watchmakers to huguenots and orders of Louis XIV time..
Condition is quite nice.
