Nice and rare antique pocket watch by IWC in silver case.
Diameter is 50mm.
The watch is based on rare calibre 28 "a bascule piliers" of Tschopp era.
Tolke/King book on IWC shows the watch on cal. 28 on page 128 and describe it as:
"…Calibre 28 "a bascule piliers" 19 lignes.. This movement calibre is probably the first to be produced after the bankruptcy of IWC in 1879.".
These watches were produced in small number during early 1880s years.
It's unknown how many watches are built on this caliber as no records have so far been found.
The movement is nicely finished, with engraved balance bridge and escapement wheel bridges, screwed chatons, nice signed movement.
Case bears serial number Swiss, metric and Imperial Russian hallmarks.
Condition
The movement is in running condition, though I don't guarantee time keeping.
The dial seems to be in excellent condition with no visible damages.
Case is in good condition with some period wear.
