Very nice single handed Louis XIV oignon watch. France, circa 1690 / 1700.
Diameter is 58mm, thickness is 36mm.
Beautiful gilt dial with porcelain cartouches.
The medallion in the center of dial is nicely decorated with birds and chymeras.
The case is richly decorated with arabesques and fairy birds and animals.
Big and beautiful balance bridge takes almost all space of the top plate, typically for French onion watches of late XVII century.
The balance bridge is very nice, it's beautifully engraved and decorated with floral and birds ornament.
Watch is signed by Du Chesne in Paris.
Pierre Duchesne was noted watchmaker, became master in 1675.
He was installed in the Grand Cour of the Palace in 1687-1701.
The pendule of his work in Museum of Decorative Art in Paris is signed Du Chesne, and in Museum of Besançon - Duchesne a Paris.
Condition is rather nice nice.
Movement is running in every position, though I don't guarantee time keeping.
The brass case is in ok condition, with some period wear.
Dial is in ok condition. Few numbers are repaired, most notable XII and III.
