c. 1800 Vestal Enamel Miniature Antique Verge Fusee Pocket Watch by Bouvier Geneve

Beautiful Genevan pocket watch with enamel miniature.
Diameter is 53mm.
Back cover is decorated with beautiful miniature, based on the gravure after a self-portrait of Angelica Kauffman: 1747 - 1807 Swiss painter who had a successful career in London and Rome, she was one of two female painters among the founding members of the Royal Academy of Art in London in 1768.
This selfportrait dressed as a Vestal, is dated c. 1780
It's interesting that on original gravure the lady is holding lamp, while on the miniature there is small jar with water.
This is most probably reference to Tuccia - a Vestal, who, to save her reputation and life, she carried water from the Tiber to the Temple of Vesta in a perforated basket without the water falling to the ground through the sieve.
This gives the portrait a significance of innocence.
The watch is signed by Bouvier in Geneve.
This should be Jacque Bouvier, mentioned by O. Patrizzi in &qout;Dictionnaire des horlogers Genevois&qout; as a watchmaker early XIX, watches with multiple dials, fantasy watches, etc.
Antiquorum mentions that he probably founded Bouvier Freres company, along with his brother David Bouvier, makers of great quality, watches with automates etc.
Antiqourum also adds that probably the enamel painter Pierre Louis Bouvier was a his cousin or brother. Given the quality of enamel, possibly he was an enamel author.
Condition
Miniature in in very good condition, free from damages or restoration.
There are few inevitable surface chips, perfectly acceptable.
Movement is in good condition, fully functional, time keeping is not tested.
Dial is in fine condition with minor chips to the winding hole and edges, invisible under the bezel.
Gilt brass case is in good condition, some gilt loss.
Mineral bull-eye crystal, hands are probably original.
